what is contemporary dance?
Contemporary dance combines elements of several dance genres including modern, jazz, lyrical & classical ballet. This dance style aims to connect the mind & the body to facilitate safe use of the body. Choreographic material ranges from soft & fluid to more strong & dynamic in movement.
The style of contemporary dance class is generally influenced by the style of the teacher and their choreography. Contemporary dance is a wonderfully flexible and open style of dance that can be tailored to suit the style, abilities and personality of the people in the class. Our classes at Adult Ballet Studio Geelong will help participants to develop an ease of movement for their own individual body. Exercises and movement material are designed to offer opportunity to develop physical awareness and clear pathways for achieving movement safely and freely. Armed with some soul lifting beats, our classes generally begins with a series of gentle floor based exercises and as our energy, physical capabilities and motivation expands so to will the vigour of the class.
